CIVIL RIGHTS GROUP REPORT EXTRA JUDICIAL KILLINGS

Civil liberties Organization (CLO), an active civil rights group, has published its report after thoroughly investigating the murder of the brothers of Lady Apostle Helen Ukpabio. The report was published by its Akwa Ibom State Branch in the 5th September, 2012 edition of the Global Concord newspaper with the title: CLO Report on Extra Judicial Killings in Ini LGA. The following are excerpts from the Report:

“Following the gruesome murder in cold and at point-blank range of the two brothers on the Sunday the 25th of March, 2012 in Mbente village of Nkari Clan in Ini local government area of Akwa Ibom State, and the brutal killing of four other young men of the same Nkari community the following day in Obot Akara local government area, Lady Apostle Helen Ukpabio raised alarm and carried out series of public enlightenment and awareness; going great length to show that an officer of the State Security Service (SSS) whose name was given of Noel Ikem Nduka led other armed who were allegedly armed with several sophisticated weapons, murdered the six young men without an order of court as provided for in Section 33 of the CFRN (1999). ”

“…the police failed in showing responsiveness and maturity in the handling of this matter. This matter suffered in the hands of the police in Akwa Ibom”

“The SSS never came out within the period of this allegation, or insists on going to court to clear its name.”

“On the few times CLO called his number (Noel Nduka), he hung up after discovering our mission of getting information from him on the matter. He has been accused of leading the team that killed the six youths of Nkari, by several persons, including Lady Apostle Helen Ukpabio”

“Conclusion: The CLO in Akwa Ibom as a civil rights group having investigated this matter, and discovered what is written above, calls on civil rights groups, civil society organizations, the police, the SSS, the office of the National Security Adviser, the National Assembly, the Presidency, the international community and other authorities, to join in calling ‘in calling’ for justice for the victims.”

“There is need for the prosecution of all those found to culpable in this heinous crime, and official investigation by an independent authority, probably from the highest command of the SSS, POLICE AND OFFICERS OF THE NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISER”

Indeed, it is quite shocking how prosecution of men who carried out a hideous crime such as this could be suppressed. I join Civil Rights Organization, the family of the deceased and others to call on the government to execute justice for the victims.
