THE FAMILY OF THE BROTHERS KILLED PETITION THE AIG of POLICE

The family of the murdered boys have petitioned the Assistant Inspector General of Police over the dastardly killing of their brother.

The following is a copy of the letter:

 27th June, 2012

THE ASSISTANT INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE,
ZONE 6 ZONAL HEADQUARTERS,
CALABAR
CROSS RIVER STATE

Dear Sir

PETITION ON THE POOR HANDLING OF POLICE INVESTIGATION IN RESPECT OF A MURDER CASE AND CALL FOR TRANSFER FROM AKWA IBOM COMMAND TO ZONAL HEADQUARTERS

RE: PETITION ON SPONSORED MURDER OF THREE BROTHERS BY NOEL NDUKA (SSS OPERATIVE ATTACHED TO AKWA IBOM STATE COMMAND) AND SOME POLICEMEN AND DEMAND FOR ARREST OF SENATOR ALOYSIUS AKPAN ETOK, CHIEF BASSEY INUAEYEN AND JUSTICE FOR CHIEF ESSIEN AKPABIO’S FAMILY

We are Solicitors to Chief Essien Akpabio and Lady Apostle Helen Ukpabio family (hereinafter referred to as our clients) and have their instructions to write to you on the above subject matter.

Recall we had written a petition in respect of the gruesome murder of six persons by Noel Nduka and others in our letter dated 21st May 2012 addressed to you (copy attached for your ease of reference). Recall also that you directed the Akwa Ibom State Police Command at Ikot Akpan Abia to carry out the investigation and report back to your Zonal Headquarters.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia in consonant with your directives effected the arrest of one of the principal suspects, Mr. Benjamin Christopher Otu. The said Mr. Benjamin Christopher Akpan Otu made useful statement to the Police indicting various persons in the gruesome murder particularly Noel Nduka, Peter Inuaeyen, Bassey Inuaeyen and Senator Aloysius Etok.

While the said Benjamin Christopher Akpan Otu was making useful statement to the Police that would assist the Authorities to uncover the murderers and to cause the felons to stand trial, the Akwa Ibom State Command led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, in the person of one Mr. Ashong quickly released the said Benjamin Christopher Akpan Otu on Sunday 24th June 2012 and ordered the Police Team to stop further investigation into the matter.

It should be noted that the said Deputy Commissioner of Police is a bossom friend of Senator Aloysius Etok who had hitherto directed the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the State CID to stop investigation and walked out the Lawyer to the family of the deceased from his office who had demanded to know the status of the matter and the extent of Police investigation. But after hue and cry coupled with publicity in the press, he tactically withdrew and strategize how to stall the investigation. Despite the directive of the Commissioner of Police Akwa Ibom State Command that investigation should be carried out, he minuted on the case file that the investigation should be “kept in view”. But when the Commissioner of Police in charge of Akwa Ibom State ordered that the case should be reopened and arrest were made, he was up in his traditional melodrama by ordering the release of the principal suspect (Mr. Benjamin Christopher Akpan Otu) from custody.

Our clients are helpless and shocked that in the case of multiple murder where three brothers of the same parents were gruesomely killed in the presence of their aged parents, the Police in Akwa Ibom State Command could release murderers and closed the case file without conclusion of investigation and taking statement from the witnesses and the family of the deceased who were eye witnesses to the gruesome murder. The murderers like Noel Nduka and others are still walking freely on the street while the deceased and their families are crying out for justice.
Consequent on this sad development, we therefore implore the Assistant Inspector General of Police to urgently transfer the case from Akwa Ibom State Command Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia, to the Zonal Headquarters in Calabar for thorough investigation and apprehension of the felons to stand trial for the multiple murders/dastard acts carried out by these cruel criminals.

Thanking you in anticipation of your favourable response.

Yours Faithfully,
